A Bespoke Ring with Yellowish-Green Heart Shaped Sapphire

Some gemstones stay in your memory long after you first see them. This heart-shaped bi-colour sapphire was one of them.

Finding the One

Our customer has always loved heart-shaped gemstones, patiently waiting for one that truly felt like hers. When the time finally came, she found herself deciding between two very different stones — a classic blue heart-shaped sapphire, and a rarer bi-colour sapphire in shades of yellow and green. In the end, she chose the one that captured her heart most naturally.

Featuring a beautifully proportioned 2.62 ct heart shape, this bi-colour sapphire was also a memorable stone for me during the 2024 Tucson Gem Show. The moment I first saw it, I found myself repeatedly drawn back to it. There was something quietly captivating about the way the colours shifted with every movement — from soft yellow to yellowish-green, and into deeper green tones depending on the light and angle.

It reminded me of nature immediately. The changing shades felt almost like looking through layers of leaves under sunlight — some touched by warm yellow light, others fading gently into green shadows.

Designing Around Nature

For the bespoke design, the customer chose an organic band inspired by the form of tree branches. Crafted in 18K rose gold and accented with small melee diamonds that flicker like sunlight through leaves, the final ring became a natural extension of the gemstone itself.

To achieve the soft, natural flow of the branch-like form, the ring was created through wax modelling — a process where the craftsman carefully carves and shapes the design by hand in wax before casting it into metal. By refining the curves and smoothing the surfaces with delicate tools, the final design retains both detailed craftsmanship and an organic sense of movement that feels almost shaped by nature itself.

From the loose stone selection to the finished piece, this project reminded us how special bespoke jewellery can be — not simply creating a ring, but creating something deeply personal around a gemstone that speaks to someone’s heart.
