Starry Night: The Story Behind a Bespoke Aquamarine Engagement Ring

When M first visited our boutique, he came prepared. An iPad in hand, with a moodboard filled with sketches and inspiration images. Though the lines and strokes were a little awkward, the thought and emotion behind every image spoke volumes.

His vision was to create a bespoke engagement ring that captured the beauty of trailing stars across the night sky, a concept inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night.
Gemstone & Design Choosing Journey
At the heart of the design, M wished for an Aquamarine, a stone symbolising calm, clarity, and the endless sky. From our selection, we found one with a deep, vivid hue that perfectly echoes the serenity and depth he envisioned.
As he shared, a few ideas slowly came into focus, and I began sketching concepts to bring them to life. Among the designs, one stood out to him immediately, an asymmetrical composition that beautifully embodied the idea of a star’s trail.
The Artistry Behind the Details
The side diamonds, representing stars, begin near the Aquamarine and gradually trail along the band. Each diamond was meticulously placed to create a natural, balanced flow of brilliance.
On the opposite side of the band, the trail subtly end in a form of engraved dots, completing the imagery of a comet’s path. To further enhance the contrast, the band was given our Artisan's Pearskin finish, adding a soft matte texture that complements the sparkle of the gems.
Under the Same Starry Sky
When the ring was finally completed, it wasn’t just a piece of jewellery — it was a story cast in Platinum and gemstones. M carried it with him to Mansfield, Australia, where, under the vast canopy of stars, he proposed to V.
Just as stars trace fleeting trails across the heavens, this custom-made engagement ring immortalises a moment of love — one that began with a dream, and now shines forever.
